The Lavender Eggs very own steam-distilled essential oil. Two types of lavender are hardy to our region, lavandula angustifolia (commonly called english lavender) and lavandula x intermedia (commonly called lavandin) which is a cross between spike lavender (lavandula latifolia) and english lavender. We mix two strains of lavandin while distilling: Grosso and Phenomenal; which have a more robust scent than english lavender due to a higher camphor content in the oil. We also include some of the leafy plant material with the blossoms in the still which gives the oil a more complex character. All of our oil is distilled during the harvest which seems to give it a "fresher" profile when compared with oil distilled from dry material.
